Class Action Lawsuits
Posted by dumbwhore on September 1st, 2003 filed in UncategorizedI hope my paypal lawsuit doesn’t end up with something as silly as this:
Class Counsel has investigated the facts and applicable law regarding Plaintiff’s claims and
Register.com’s defenses. The parties have engaged in “arms-length” negotiations in reaching this
Settlement. Plaintiff and Class Counsel believe the proposed Settlement is fair, reasonable and
adequate, and in the best interests of the Settlement Class.
Register.com has agreed to provide each Class Member with a certificate, in the form of a
promotional code, for $5.00 (five dollars) off the costs of Register.com’s domain name registration fees
or the costs of domain name renewal fees for all domain names registered or renewed using
Register.com’s services (the “Certificate”) for a redemption period of nine (9) months following the
issuance of the Certificate.
This is because some dude got peeved at Register.com for putting up a “Under Construction” page on his domain for the first day that he registered it. I was apparently enjoined into this lawsuit because I leased a domain during the last few years.
I had something similar to this happen to me for an old 79 chevy truck. It was an interesting lawsuit. It happened because a lot of people were dying due to gas tank explosions(since they were located in a bad spot right under the cab.) And anyone who had EVER owned a truck of the applicable years was entitled to retribution. But here’s what I found odd, they offered everyone a certificate for $1k off of their next Chevy purchase if they bought a car within the next year. If I sold it to someone else it’s value dropped to $500. If I waited a year it’s value and resale value dropped 50%. After that it was without value.
Seems like this is the way that a lot of class action lawsuits are paid out… even the ones where peoples lives were at stake. What do smokers get in their class action lawsuits? a case of cigarettes?
