Messages in Internet chat rooms, where drug smugglers in Latin America can arrange cocaine deliveries in London or Berlin, are almost impossible to intercept and cellular phone text messages cannot be tracked by authorities, Mark Malcolm, intelligence analyst at the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, told an international drug conference in Lima.
“We are at a great disadvantage because we cannot intercept text messages or instant messaging. The only real possibility is by using undercover officers, who put their lives at risk,” Malcolm told delegates.
I could have been moving horse 12 years ago and completely fooled the feds. 12 years later and they’re upset about technology and it’s anonymous nature? These guys are so far out of the technology curve that it kills me. What are they using as paper weights? large clubs with nails sticking out of them?
GEEK SIDENOTE: The sad thing is that they’ll ask for legislation similar to the spam legislation. Shit that won’t do anything to help them…will confuse the few honest businessmen left…and then prosecute five guys that didn’t pay taxes or something otherwise stupid.
Could someone please explain to the fucking government that a chat room doesn’t occur on ANY territory. or at least invite them onto IRC so they can be blown away.
